All it's mutations are centered around killing enemies in short ammount of time. WebShields are dope in four cell. Stun or force field or spike all do good work. Whoever said that doesn't use shields much, I'd wager. With the stun shield especially you can trivalize a huge number of enemies and elites.

You can also parry grenades back at enemies, which is essential in some biomes like the Clock Tower. All of that can be done with almost any shield.

WebI'd suggest either give the frontline shield a buff by making its block prevents malaise buildup or just remove frontline shield altogether from Cell Level 4 and 5. It's a bit fustrating when you start a new run and the game offers you a frontline shield on those cell levels. All rest are not worth unlocking. Swarm - It's just terrible. Oil Grenade - No. Corrupted Power - Again boss damage caps. Regular enemies die easily even without this.
